When you’re 11 and notice that every wall of your town is smudgy with the writing Boli43, you ask yourself at least 2 questions:
- Who’s this Boli?
- What’s that 43?
Once I ascertained that it was not a shoe size, or tie Italian Armistice of 1943, I finally found the explanation.
A certain Basile Boli had scored the goal that would cost Milan to defeat during the Champions League final. That’s all.
And Boli43 was nothing more than a reminder for all those Milanists hasty to turn the page, inflicted by spray cans on each wall.
It was a sort of rivalry against that unbeatable Milan that had won everything until that moment.
We were in 1993, and in Olympique Marsiglia there were people like Alen Bokšić, Didier Deschamps, Marcel Desailly and Jocelyn Angloma.
Better not to think that it’s been a quarter of a century.
